Community Energy Meet Up – Thermal Imaging: See & Stop Heat Loss At Home

February 27 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Make an impact this year! In 2025 we’re organising a neighbourhood meet up each month to talk all about community energy, share green skills, and bring together people in our local area.

Tired of paying through the nose just to keep your home warm? Come to our February meet up in Staple Hill where we’ll be looking at Thermal Imaging – the process of using an infrared camera to detect temperature variations, identifying heat loss, air leaks, and inefficiencies in a home. Find out how it can help you cut down energy bills by seeing and stopping heat from escaping.

This Month

– Where ELCoE is up to & our aims
– Guest speakers from The CHEESE Project CIC
– Free Thermographic Surveys to give away that are worth £325!
– Make a draught excluder and socialising
– Retrofit info desk from Retrofit West

We’re excited to be joined by The CHEESE Project this February. CHEESE stands for Cold Homes Energy Efficiency Survey Experts and their mission is to ‘reduce domestic energy losses at low cost helping you improve your comfort and wellbeing as well as reduce your energy consumption and carbon footprint’. They use Thermal Imaging to survey homes, finding out where and how you’re losing heat.

We’ll hear about how a Thermal Imaging survey works, the most common ways we’re losing heat at home, and what you can do to stop it – whether that’s adding insulation, or simple and cheap draught-proofing hacks to help you save energy right away.

ELCoE are delighted that this month we’re able to pay for a limited amount of our members to have Thermal Imaging Surveys with The CHEESE Project – come along to the meet up to find out how to apply for a FREE Thermal Imaging Survey worth £325!

Afterwards there’ll be time to chat and get to know each other over tea/coffee/snacks – tell us what you think about sustainable energy and the changes you want to see locally.

Plus meet your neighbours while you make a draught-excluder using our recycled materials. You’ll be able to talk to people who’ve already taken retrofit measures in a home local to you, and hear how they found the process. There’ll even be a Retrofit West info desk where you can find out how to get your retrofit journey started.

It’s open to everyone and free to attend. This month we’re holding the meet up in the Main Hall at the Staple Hill Methodist Church (we’re an external hire and not affiliated with the church). See you there on Thursday 27th of February from 7:30-9pm!

5 Reasons to come along

– Learn about making your home warmer and cutting down your energy bills
– Turn your thoughts/hopes into action and make a difference in your community
– Be part of a green network and meet new people in your area
– Learn new skills and share experiences with neighbours
– The ELCoE team are very friendly and will give you a warm welcome 🙂

About Retrofit West

We’ve been able to set up our monthly meet ups with the support of Retrofit West and their Community Innovation Fund.

Retrofit West is a Community Interest Company (CIC) offering concise and independent advice and support for domestic retrofit projects in the West of England. They believe that retrofitting is a crucial tool in the fight against climate change and that it has several benefits for the community, including reducing carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency, creating local jobs, and improving the health and well-being of residents.

Retrofit West was created by the Centre for Sustainable Energy, one of the country’s leading retrofit and energy advice organisations, with funding from the West of England Combined Authority.

Note: Our February meet up will be filmed by videographers for the West of England Combined Authority, who are spotlighting the work that Retrofit West are doing with community groups such as ELCoE.
