Community Meet Up – Retrofit Basics: Making Your Home Fit for the Future
January 27 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Make an impact this year! In 2025 we’re organising a neighbourhood meet up each month to talk all about community energy, share green skills, and bring together people in our local area.
Live in Emersons & Lyde Green, Staple Hill & Mangotsfield, Blackhorse, Pucklechurch, or Westerleigh?
Come to our first meet up in Mangotsfield where we’ll be looking at domestic Retrofit – the process of making improvements on an exisiting building to make it easier to heat, more energy efficient, and less reliant on fossil fuels. We’ll be asking questions about what’s involved in retrofitting, and how do we know if it’s right for us?
This Month
– Where ELCoE is up to
– What is Retrofit & how can it work for us (guest speaker)
– Make a draught excluder and socialising
We’ll kick off with an introduction to ELCoE and what we’ve been working on so far. A guest speaker from Retrofit West CIC will be joining us this month to give an overview of what retrofit is, and how they’re helping South Glos residents to navigate it at home.
Afterwards there’ll be time to chat and get to know each other – we’re excited to hear what you think about renewable energy and the changes you want to see locally.
Plus meet your neighbours while you make a draught-excluder using our recycled materials. You’ll be able to talk to people who’ve already taken retrofit measures in a home local to you, and hear how they found the process.
It’s open to everyone and free to join. We’re holding the first meeting in Mangotsfield at St James Church (we’re an external hire and not affiliated with the church).
5 Reasons to come along
– Learn about making your home warmer and cutting down your energy bills
– Turn your thoughts/hopes into action and make a difference in your community
– Be part of a green network and meet new people in your area
– Learn new skills and share experiences with neighbours
– The ELCoE team are very friendly and will give you a warm welcome 🙂
About Retrofit West
We’ve been able to set up our monthly meet ups with the support of Retrofit West and their Community Innovation Fund – and we’re very grateful to them for joining us this month to share their Retrofit expertise!
Retrofit West is a Community Interest Company (CIC) offering concise and independent advice and support for domestic retrofit projects in the West of England. They believe that retrofitting is a crucial tool in the fight against climate change and that it has several benefits for the community, including reducing carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency, creating local jobs, and improving the health and well-being of residents.
Retrofit West was created by the Centre for Sustainable Energy, one of the country’s leading retrofit and energy advice organisations, with funding from the West of England Combined Authority.
